HCG to start cancer centre in Trichy
HCG Hospitals, which has already opened a cancer centre in Uganda, is setting up three more centres in Africa, including Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Nairobi in Kenya and Lagos in Nigeria.
HCG group chairman Dr B S Ajaikumar, who was here to lay the foundation stone of the group's upcoming cancer centre in the city, informed this to TOI on Monday.
"While the centre at Uganda has already started, the centres at Nairobi and Dar es Salaam will start in the next 18 to 24 months," he said, adding that the group will invest Rs 500 crore mainly through equity and debt for starting new centres.
Temasek, an investment company owned by the Government of Singapore, has recently invested in HCG to aid the company's expansion plans into Africa and also fund its next phase of expansion across India.
The company has previously received financing from Premji Invest, the investment fund owned by Wipro's billionaire chairman, Azim Premji.
HCG, which has already invested over Rs 700 crore, presently has a network of 27 centres across the country and plans to set up 20 other centres.
"Through our hub and spoke model we will be focusing mainly on tier II and tier III cities to make cancer care accessible to patients throughout the country," said Ajaikumar, adding that apart from Vadodara, the group is setting up centres at Kanpur, Varanasi and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, Trichy in Tamil Nadu and Gulbarga in Karnataka among others.
